Wade, Davis return to OSU

-

Two of Ohio State’s biggest stars, cornerback Shaun Wade and guard Wyatt Davis, are opting back in for the 2020 football season.

The preseason AllAmericans had decided to leave school to prepare for the NFL draft when it looked as if there would be no football season for the Big Ten. Both are expected to be firstround picks.

They changed their minds after the conference announced on Sept. 16 that teams would play an nine-game season starting Oct. 23-24.

The news is huge for Ohio State, which behind quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist Justin Fields has the talent to again compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

Wade, who had opted out on Monday, announced on ESPN on Thursday that he would return.

“It was a long day yesterday being with family and friends and taking that time to talk to them and really making the right decision for myself, but I’m going to come back and be a Buckeye and really go strive for this national championship,” Wade said.

CHARGERS’ POUNCY OUT FOR YEAR» Chargers center Mike Pouncey has been placed on injured reserve and will miss the season because of a hip injury.

General manager Tom Telesco said on Sept. 17 that Pouncey will undergo surgery before the end of the month.

Pouncey is in his 10th season. He played in only five games last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He was released by the Miami Dolphins in 2018 before signing with the Chargers.
