Matt Wilhelm award update after Week 4

Adam Schabel is back with an update of how candidates for the Matt Wilhelm award, The Morning Journal’s high school football player of the year honor, fared during Week 4 gridiron action.

The Matt Wilhelm award goes to The Morning Journal’s football player of the year. A watch list for the top players in the area will be published each week leading up to the presentati­on of the award. This list is fluid, can change week to week and is in alphabetic­al order: • RB Jaheim Atkinson, Sr., Elyria: Tallied 51 rushing yards and one touchdown in the Pioneers’ loss to Medina.

• QB Michael Corbo, Sr., Avon Lake: Completed 9 of 12 passes for 99yards in a win over Amherst. Corbo also ran eight times for 29yards in the contest.

• QB Robert Davis, Sr., Clearview: Completed 12of 22 passes for 79yards in a loss to Firelands.

• WR Jaret Frantz, Sr., Elyria Catholic: Caught three passes for 45 yards and one touchdown in the Panthers’ win over Medina Buckeye.

• RB Joe Governale, Sr., Columbia: Governale returned to the Raiders’ lineup in Week 4. He helped lead his team to a win over Wellington by rushing for 113yards and two touchdowns.

• RB Kenny Grobolsek, Jr., Brookside: Completed 11 of 15 passes for 102yards in a loss to Keystone. Grobolsek also ran for 68 yards and one touchdown on 19carries.

• QB Anthony Guercio, Sr., North Olmsted: Completed 9 of 15passes for 124yards and two touchdowns in a loss to Avon. Guercio also carried 11 times for 13yards.

• RB Devon Hunter, Sr., Avon: Racked up 109yards rushing and three touchdowns on nine carries in a win over North Olmsted. Hunter’s second score of the day was from 39yards out. He also caught two passes for 26 yards in the win.

• RB Carter Janicek, Jr., Firelands: Ran for 127 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries in the Falcons’ win over Clearview. Janicek’s TD run was from 39 yards out.

• RB Gideon Lampron, Jr., Keystone: Racked up 165 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 18carries in a win over Brookside. Lampron’s second score of the day came from 24 yards out.

• QB Steven Navalinsky, Sr., Elyria Catholic: Completed 15of 22passes for 239yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers’ win over Medina Buckeye.

• QB Niko Pappas, Sr., Avon: Completed 11 of 16 passes for 108yards in a win over North Olmsted. Pappas also ran for 136yards and two scores in the contest. His TD runs came from 15 and 18 yards out.

• WR Michael Ptacek, Sr., Avon: Did not catch a pass in Avon’s Week 4win over North Olmsted.

• QB Konner Rodick, So., Keystone: Completed 12of 15passes for 241yards and two touchdowns in a win over Brookside.

• WR Ryne Shackelfor­d, So., Keystone: Caught seven passes for 182yards and one touchdown. Shackelfor­d’s TD was from 80yards out. He also had one carry for six yards.

• RB Torre Weatherspo­on, Jr., Amherst: Tallied 54 rushing yards on 13carries in the Comets’ loss to Avon Lake.
