The Lorain County Historical Society invites the public to an afternoon of fun Feb. 14 with Ohio first ladies.

It’s time for tea.

The Lorain County Historical Society is inviting the public to enjoy an afternoon of fun on Feb. 14 with a program called “Spilling the Tea: An Afternoon with Three of Ohio’s First Ladies.”

History has been a collection of stories recorded by men, about men, according to a news release from the County Historical Society.

The release said the County Historical Society often likes to turn the tables at its annual Valentine Tea and celebrate women, and this year is no exception.

On that day, pick up three courses of savory and sweet tea treats packaged beautifully and conveniently togo from The Hickories Museum, 509 Washington Ave. in Elyria.

Then join the County Historical Society at 2 p.m. when three former first ladies, fellow Ohioans, meet and “spill the tea.”

Julia Grant, Ida McKinley and Florence Harding suspend time and space to come together on Valentine’s Day over a nice cup of tea, sharing stories of courtship, marriage, and some very juicy gossip, the release said.

The First Ladies program will be provided by Women in History, a local group that celebrates the stories of notable American women with dramatic portrayals in costume and character.

Tea tickets are $27 per person and include one meal plus access to the online program. For an added $5 fee, the meal can be delivered. There also is a program-only registration option for $10.

Sponsorships are available, which include program advertising, meal, and the program link. For more information, email pmonschein@lchs.org or 440-3223341. Purchase tickets online at www.lchs.org/events.

The County Historical Society’s 22nd annual Valentine Tea is the perfect way to treat your sweetheart, or yourself, to something special this Valentine’s Day, the release said.

All proceeds benefit the County Historical Society.

The County Historical Society, founded in 1889, collects, preserves, and shares the history of Lorain County to educate and inspire present and future generations.
