Lorain’s Wilson is first-team all-district

With the boys basketball season for The Morning Journal coverage area coming to a close this past weekend, awards season is in full swing.

The 2020-2021 Northeast Lakes All-District boys basketball team, as selected by members of the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Associatio­n, has been released.

Area teams are well-represente­d as we break down where area players landed.

In Division I, Lorain’s Seth Wilson was selected to the first team. The senior averaged 23.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and helped lead the Titans to a district final appearance this past weekend. Lorain fell to St. Ignatius on March 6, which ended its season.

Amherst’s Ty Weatherspo­on was a third-team selection after averaging 14.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per contest. He was named the Southweste­rn Conference Most Valuable Player and led the Comets to their first conference championsh­ip in 29 years.

The team won its playoff opener vs. Wadsworth before exiting the tournament prematurel­y. Amherst’s district semifinal game vs. St. Ignatius was called off due to an illness within the Comets’ program. Amherst finished with a 17-3 overall record and a 14-2 mark in the conference.

In Division II, Bay’s Ashton Price was a first-team selection after averaging 25.9 points and 4.3 assists per game this season. He was also named the Great Lakes Conference Most Valuable Player after leading the Rockets to a GLC title. Bay finished with a 14-3 record this season.

Keyston’s Ryan Walsh was also a first-team selection after averaging 17.6 points, 4.4 assists and 2.8 steals per game. The sophomore helped lead the Wildcats to a Lorain County League title this season. Keystone finished with a 14-6 overall record and a 13-1 mark in conference play.

Firelands’ Mitchell Hodges was a second-team selection after posting averages of 16.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.9 blocks per game. His teammate Casey Kelley was a third-team selection after the senior averaged eight assists per contest. Firelands made a district semifinal appearance this season.

In Division III, Columbia, Oberlin and Fairview were well-represente­d with multiple selections.

Columbia’s Caleb Borling was named to the first team after posting averages of 18.1 points and six rebounds per game. His teammate Brandon Fisher was a second-team selection after averaging 15.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.7 steals per contest.

Oberlin guard Trajen Chambers was a secondteam selection as the senior averaged 19.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. He also knocked down 37 3-pointers this season. His teammate Ty Locklear was a third-team selection after averaging 15.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2.9 steals per contest.

Columbia and Oberlin made district semifinal appearance­s this season.

Fairview senior Ethan McQuate was a secondteam selection after posting averages of 15.2 points and 3 rebounds per game. His teammate Danny Hanton was a third-team selection. The junior averaged 13.5 points and four rebounds per contest.

In Division IV, Open Door had a pair of players selected. Gavin Dobbins was a first-team selection after averaging 27.7 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.1 steals. His teammate Jai’den HowardGuer­ra was named to the second team. The freshman posted averages of 13.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
