The Lorain County Boys Basketball Coaches Association all-star game will not happen for the second straight year, but the organization is planning on the game returning in the future.

The LCBBCA explained the reasoning behind the cancelation as well as the role of the Association in a release.

“A committee of high school head coaches goes through a careful selection process of choosing players nominated by their coaches. Being selected for the LCBBCA all star game is a prestigious honor. The all star players selected are the top senior players in the county. The all star night has a long history.

“The board of the LCBBCA has decided for the second year in a row to not have an actual all star game taking into consideration the current environment. This decision was made for the safety of the athletes and their families. The LCBBCA wants to demonstrate responsible leadership in a difficult time. Consideration was also given to limiting the risk of shutdowns for our spring sports athletes and coaches.

“The LCBBCA will continue this long tradition of the annual all star game with the Troy DiFranco All Star Night featuring the Gene Legeza Classic in the future.

“The LCBBCA is led by Lorain County high school coaches who volunteer a substantial amount of time for the benefit our high school athletes. “

“No individual profits from our activities. The association holds the annual Lorain County Preview, an annual coaches clinic and the annual all star night.

“In addition, the association selects all county awards annually, inducts individuals into the LCBBCA hall of fame and advocates for school sponsored high school basketball. All proceeds from events are given out in scholarships.

“The LCBBCA has also supported several charities throughout the year. The LCBBCA all star night is a special night and will continue to be the premier all star night for our athletes in the future.”

Despite the cancelation, the organization released the all-star roster and announced scholarship recipients.

The following seniors will be receiving $250 scholarships from the LCBBCA; Colin Ladegaard, Avon, Elijah Sheffield, Brookside, Dez Shelton, Elyria, Joey Bucci, Elyria Catholic, Evan Zidar, Firelands, Rocky Houston, Keystone, Jamir Billings, Lorain, Tyler Dawson, Midview, Caden Masterson, North Ridgeville, Matt Saegert, Vermilion, Wyatt Sasack, Wellington, Brandon Fisher, Columbia, Trajen Chambers, Oberlin and Ty Weatherspoon, Amherst.
