Lorain man dies in 3-car collision on Henderson Bridge

Lorain police have identified the man who died in a three-car crash Aug. 21 on the Henderson Bridge.

Francisco J. Santiago, 40, of Lorain suffered fatal injuries in the crash that occurred just after 9 p.m. at 2200 Henderson Drive, according to a news release from Lorain police.

Officers responded to the north side of the Henderson Bridge for a crash involving three vehicles, the release said.

Investigat­ors determined that the 2006 Honda Civic Santiago was driving was traveling north over the bridge at a high rate of speed.

The Civic attempted to change lanes in front of a Ford Taurus, also traveling north, according to the release.

The Taurus collided with the Civic causing it to rotate and veer into the southbound lanes, the release said.

Once in the southbound lanes, the Civic was struck by a 2007 Ford Focus and came to rest on the sidewalk against the guardrail, according to the release.

Santiago was not wearing his seat belt, the release said.

Alcohol appears to have contribute­d to the collision, according to the release.

Police closed the Henderson Bridge for five hours while traffic investigat­ors processed the scene for evidence and removal of the three vehicles.
