OVI checkpoint this week in Lorain County

The Lorain County OVI Task Force announced Aug. 23 that sometime in the next week, an OVI checkpoint will take place in the county. The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

Already in 2021, in Lorain County there have been 20 fatal crashes compared to 15 for all of 2020, with 45% of them being alcohol related, according to a news release from the OVI Task Force.

If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other arrangemen­ts before you drink, the release said.
