Youngsters get involved with 4stem activities

The Lorain County fair well is underway with the majority of Aug. 27 activities involving the Junior Fair.

The Junior Fair Livestock Auction took place early in the morning for market beef and hogs.

Karalynn Todten took home first place for holstein winter yearling during the open class judging of beef cattle.

Miniature horse pulls and pony shows garnered crowds in the afternoon.

The cornhole tournament and tractor pulls also took place.

The combine derby and pick-up truck derby started at 7 p.m.

Sally Hennessey, from Ohio State University Extension in Lorain County, helped youngsters make science fun with 4stem activities.

The spin into agriscienc­e activities utilized soy beans and household items to create a robot cleaner.

OSU Extension works to help local residents and community leaders enhance and sustain the environmen­t and natural areas, according to its website.

Hennessy said she’s happy to see the children get invested in the projects. “It’s great to see,” she said. “The kids have been coming to me and asking me what are they doing next?

“They’re really engaged and excited to participat­e.”
