AVON LAKE>>GIRLS GOLF SENIOR

On the course: The co-captain recorded her first hole-in-one with an ace at Brentwood while carding a 40in a win over Midview. Also carded a 41 at Seneca against Berea-Midpark. For 18, she scored an 87 and 89 at the Magnificat Blue Streak invitational and the Independence Tournament at Shawnee. Off the course: Is aspiring to be an engineer in the Air Force ROTC. Wants to play a division or club sport in college. “Golf is one of my most recent passions. I never picked up a club and played a real round of golf in my life until I was a freshman in high school. With the support of my parents and my coaches, I was able to excel rapidly to become the player I am. My favorite memory was playing the No. 6as a sophomore against one our biggest competitors, Olmsted Falls. I had no idea how the other girls were playing, but I figured they were playing well enough they wouldn’t need my score. Yet when I walked up off the 18th green and handed my card to my coach, everyone gasped. My round had helped the team beat Olmsted Falls by one stroke. This moment made my realize how much golf is a team sport, despite playing for my own score. Golf was hard for me in the beginning, it took all four years of playing to discover my peace with it. I got upset easily and it was nothing like the other sports I played. Growing up in a family of skiers and becoming a downhill skier myself, there was no time to slow down. We would travel every weekend to our home mountain Holiday Valley and spend the next two days either training or racing. Sometimes I would even have to miss school and find a way to keep up with my academics. I also couldn’t train everyday like some of my teammates who lived up there. My parents enrolled me along with my siblings into a gym called T3Performance, where I would train 3-4days a week. The gym helped to keep me fit not only on the slopes but on the golf course. It allowed me to make difficult and long holes feel easier, knowing I could drive the ball down the fairway. When I am not on the golf course or the slopes, I am just an average teenage girl. I go to school and do my homework, watch whatever is popular on Netflix, and hang out with my family and friends. On the weekends, I enjoy volunteering at Lovea-Stray and working with the cats there.

Sarah Peer

WESTLAKE>>GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY SOPHOMORE

On the course: The standout placed an impressive fifth at the OHSAA Early Season Invitational at Fortress Obetz.

Huge fan of Westlake Nutrition and Mitchell’s Ice Cream. When she’s not running or working at the pool, Peer is playing spike ball or watching movies.

Rachel Washburn COLUMBIA>>FOOTBALL, GIRLS SOCCER SOPHOMORE>>KICKER, CENTER/ MIDFIELD

On the field: Washburn had quite a week for the Raiders. She kicked a field goal in the football team’s 45-10win over Independence, and helped the girls soccer team two wins over Rittman and Lorain with a goal and five assists. Off the field: Washburn’s favorite sport is soccer, and her favorite team is Manchester United. She also enjoys running cross country and her favorite subject is social studies.

Autumn Korey

AVON LAKE>>GIRLS TENNIS FRESHMAN>>NO. 2 SINGLES

Off the court: Korey began playing tennis at age 7, and credits her twin sister Amber, who also plays, and her brother Cameron, for her success. Her favorite school subject is science and food is chicken tacos.
