The Lorain County Fair is a highlight for many youngsters in the area.

Jayde Davis, 15, and Gabi Cruz, 11, won first place in the sack race competition.

The girls have been participating in the fair since they have been old enough to ride.

“It’s just a lot of fun,” said Davis.

Local youth create projects to display, practice riding skills and even raise livestock in anticipation of the annual fair.

Daisy Bockmore, 12, of Wellington is no stranger to showing steers at the fair.

Bockmore’s Champion Modern Beef Steer sold in the auction for $4.75 per pound to T.L. Keller Meats in Litchfield.

“I feel really good about the result,” she said. “Last year, it went for a pretty low price but this year is high. I’m really proud.”

Bockmore says she believes extra practice and a boost of confidence helped achieve the greater outcome.

Bockmore says she looks forward to the fair each year.

“My favorite part is showing the animals and spending time with my family,” she said.
