Creatives to network at Broadway Mary’s
Lorain native is creating opportunities for artists to connect.
Darius Price-Smith is an audio engineer who would like to see Lorain known for its artistry.
Price-Smith is in the band, LetsM8AMovie, where he plays the keyboard.
He is a 2010 Early College High School graduate.
After high school, Price-Smith relocated to Mesa, Ariz., where he studied engineering.
On Sept. 5, he is hosting a networking event at Broadway Mary’s, 939 Broadway in Lorain.
“I want to promote connectivity and positivity here in the city,” Price-Smith said.
“A lot of creatives work independently, but it’s good to network.”
The event, which takes place from 6-9 p.m., is free and open to the public.
Price-Smith said he wants to showcase local talent and provide a space for artistry in Lorain.
The event will include live performances and a versus battle.
“It’s not competitive, but it’s a battle,” Price-Smith said. “It’s for fun and allows for the producers to show their skills.”
Broadway Mary’s owner Mary Fields said she wants the restaurant to be a haven for creativity.
“We want to bring culture here,” Fields said. “We’d like to be an oasis for artists and creatives to have events or create their art.
“I believe art is important in the revitalization of the city.”
Price-Smith said the purpose of artistry is to tell the stories.
“We’re taking trauma, repacking and distributing it in a positive way,” he said.
Artists of any sort are encouraged to attend the event.
