Clearview cancels Sept. 3 game due to COVID
The Clearview Clippers football team is the latest high school team to cancel a game this season due to complications from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Clearview football team’s Sept. 3 game against Smithville has been cancelled due to complications with the novel coronavirus.
Clearview Athletic Director and head football coach Mike Collier confirmed the cancellation to The Morning Journal on Aug. 31 after Smithville tweeted it was looking for a Week 3 opponent.
The game will not be rescheduled and neither side will receive a win or a loss due to the cancellation.
The OHSAA recently announced that the number of games needed by a team to qualify for the football playoffs was lowered from eight to five. Meaning the Clippers are in no danger of having their 2021 playoff chances taken away.
This marks the third game in The Morning Journal’s coverage area to be canceled because of COVID-19 complications over the past two weeks. Both Brookside and Keystone had their Week 2 bouts canceled in the later stages of last week.
As of Aug. 31, the Clearview at Smithville football game is the only cancellation in the area.
