Shooting injures two auxiliary officers

Men treated, released from Mercy Hospital

An early morning shooting on Sept. 5 injured two members of the Lorain Police Department Auxiliary, according to a news release.

About 2 a.m. two Lorain Police auxiliary officers were on their way home from working a support patrol shift. The officers were in full uniform but were traveling in their personal vehicle. While in the 1600 block of E. 34th St., they noticed a vehicle aggressive­ly tailgating their vehicle.

After pulling to the side of the road to let the pursuing vehicle pass, a newer dark colored vehicle pulled alongside the officers’ car, firing several rounds at the personal vehicle, striking the driver, officer Michael Mizen, in the finger. The passenger, officer William Mott, 20, was struck in the forehead, the release said.

The suspect vehicle then sped off.

Mizen was treated for the injury to his finger and released from Mercy Hospital.

Mott was treated for a non-life-threatenin­g injury to his head. He was also released from Mercy Hospital just hours after the incident.

Both officers are recovering and in stable condition.

The Lorain Police Detective Bureau was contacted.

Detectives responded to the scene of the shooting. The incident remains under investigat­ion.
