Wellington man dies in crash

The Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigat­ing a two-vehicle crash Sept. 9 on state Route 301, near Indian Hollow Road, in Penfield Township that left a Wellington man dead.

John Gibbons, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the highway patrol.

At 1:36 p.m., a 2003 Ford F-650 Gibbons was driving was northbound on Route 301 and a 2020 Freightlin­er was southbound on Route 301.

One of the vehicles traveled left of center striking the other vehicle head on.

The crash remains under investigat­ion.

A 50-year-old Akron woman was driving the Freightlin­er and was transporte­d by Metro Life Flight to MetroHealt­h Medical Center in Cleveland with serious injuries, the release said.

Impairment is not suspected in the crash at this time, the release said.

Wellington Fire Department, South Lorain County EMS, Lorain County Coroner’s Office, Metro Life Flight and Interstate Towing assisted OHP.
