Zora Elizabeth Maxwell
Zora Elizabeth Maxwell, 89, entered into her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 following a brief illness. She was born April 9, 1932 In Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Zora was the daughter of Huriah Belcher Sr. and Rosie Mae Belcher.
She moved to Ohio at a early age. She met the love of her life, Walter Maxwell Jr. and they married on October 2, 1949. They were happily married for 17 years. To that union were born eight children (four boys and four girls) Zora never remarried.
Zora loved life and loved being around her family. She confessed in Christ at an early age. She was a former member of Fairfield Christian Center, Lorain, City of Deliverance Church of Lorain and the Greater Christ Temple of Elyria. She was a member of the Lorain County Ushers Board and Mother of the Church. She loved the Lord and enjoyed going to church.
Zora enjoyed doing cross word and jigsaw puzzles and was an avid lover of baseball and football.
Zora leaves to cherish her legacy and memory her children: Ike Maxwell of Elyria, OH, Robin Maxwell of California, Darlene (nee Maxwell) (Robert) Sanders of Elyria, OH, Marsha Martin (nee Maxwell) of Lorain, OH; 25 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren; sister, Lola Gay of Birmingham, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Maxwell Jr.; parents, Huriah Belcher Sr. and Rosie Mae (nee Rogers) Belcher; siblings: William Belcher, Huriah Belcher Jr., Oscar Lee Belcher and Georgia Perry; children: Walter Maxwell III, Gloria Maxwell, Daryl Maxwell and Bernard Maxwell and sons-in-law, Leslie Martin and Gregory Davison.
Family and friends will be received September 14, 2021 from 10:00 - 11:00 at the Unity Baptist Church located at 326 Fuller Rd, Elyria, OH 44035 where the Pastor is the Right Reverend Willie Gardener
Celebration of Life 11:00, burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery
