Second Harvest cancels in-person Generous Helpings fundraiser Sept. 26
Online event still a go
Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio announced Sept. 17 it has made the difficult decision to cancel its annual in-person Generous Helpings fundraiser set for Sept. 26, citing concerns about rising novel coronavirus cases, according to a news release.
President and CEO Julie Chase-Morefield said in light of rising COVID-19 cases and the significant burden on the health care system, that canceling the event was the responsible thing to do in service to the community Second Harvest loves.
“Planning the event was an act of hopefulness, that as a community, we would be in a much different place,” Chase-Morefield wrote. “Our event has always been a fun place to mingle while dining on food from the best restaurants in our region.
“But we recognize it also creates more risk for attendees than sit-down events.”
Generous Helpings 2021 will transition to a virtual event as with the 2020 edition.
Second Harvest is reminding the community that every $50 donated will give them one raffle ticket entry for a number of items.
Guests can join the online event at www.generoushelpings2021.com at 6 p.m., Sept. 26, for a special presentation which will include an update of its work, the winners of the Bev Lizanich Innovation Award and raffle winners, according to Chase-Morefield.
Second Harvest is offering those who purchased tickets to donate the cost of their ticket in support of their efforts or to request a refund.
“Your support of all our work continues to allow us to reach families in need and ensure they have the food they need to grow and thrive,” Chase-Morefield added.
