STATE CHAMPS!
The Murray Ridge Raiders Special Olympics softball team won the state championship Sept. 11 in Sandusky against Stark Public 2.
Both teams gave it their all, and the final score was 22-5 in favor of the Raiders, according to a news release. The state championship game day saw a doubleheader, and the Raiders won the first game 20-7 in the afternoon against Montgomery County.
The Raiders played eight games this year, with a record of 6-2, according to the release.
The Murray Ridge Raiders had 15 players attend the game, out of the 18 total players who participated this season. All Lorain County adults with developmental disabilities are welcome to participate in the Murray Ridge Special Olympics Program, the release said.
Eunice Kennedy Shriver founded Special Olympics in 1968 in order for individuals with developmental disabilities to have “the chance to play, the chance to compete, and the chance to grow.”
