• It was a difficult follow-up for the Avon Lake football team after its big victory over rival Avon a week ago.

Against visiting BereaMidpa­rk on Sept. 17, the Shoreman fell into a 21-7 first-half deficit and couldn’t recover in a 23-17 loss.

It was the first loss of the season for Avon Lake, which fell to 4-1.

Jeremy Dzik threw a 39yard TD to Jake DePaul in the first quarter for Avon Lake’s first TD, and it lead, 7-6. Then, Berea-Midpark scored two touchdowns for its 21-7 lead. Hudson Devins’ 48-yard TD run gave the visitors its twotouchdo­wn advantage.

Owen Wiley connected on a field goal to pull the Shoreman within 21-10 at halftime. In the third quarter, Jeremy Santiago’s 2-run TD run pulled Avon Lake within 21-17 early in the third quarter.

Berea-Midpark (3-2) extended its lead to 23-17 in fourth quarter with a safety, and then closed out the victory.

• In a battle of 0-4 teams, Midview got into the win column for the first time this season in a big way.

The Middies built a 38-7 lead after halftime en route to a 45-7 victory.

Mason Kucera had three rushing touchdowns in the first half. He scored on runs of 10, 8 and 31 yards. He also scored on a TD pass from Marc Reed from 31 yards.

Reed threw a TD to Connor Awad in the first half to make it 35-0. Reed also scored on a 25-yard run.

The Comets (0-5) got a TD from Cameron Gendics on a 85-yard pass from Christian Heckmann.
