Dorothy Cardillo, 90, a long-time resident of Avon Lake, passed away peacefully Monday, September 13, 2021. She was born December 7, 1930 to parents Otto and Winifred (nee Hickey) Schoen in Scranton, PA.

Dorothy was the youngest of 11 children in a family with three sets of twins. After graduating from Holy Rosary High School, Dorothy went to New York City to study ballet at the Maria Swoboda School of Dance. Although she didn’t stay in New York after completing her training, her love of dance lasted throughout her lifetime. She taught dance in her hometown of Scranton when she was young. After moving to Avon Lake in the 1960s, she began performing in Mighty Goliath Production­s as a dancer, actress, and singer. She also helped choreograp­h dance numbers for some high school production­s in Lorain County.

Dorothy was a long-time member of Holy Spirit Church in Avon Lake where she was active in the church choir and was a member of the Ladies’ Guild and Young in Spirit. She also volunteere­d in a variety of roles, including helping with the Sunday school program. Her great faith was reflected in one of her favorite sayings “Keep Looking Up!” She was an enthusiast­ic sports fan who loved rooting for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Indians and watching college basketball. Dorothy was known in the community for being a friend to everyone, greeting and befriendin­g people everywhere she went in the neighborho­od. She was a kind, personable woman who could find the good in everyone.

She is survived by her loving children Anthony (Tony) Cardillo of Avon Lake and Lisa Cardillo Rose of Bethel, Ohio; cherished grandchild­ren, Rachel Rose of Amelia, Ohio, Graham Rose of West Chester, Ohio, and Hayley Rose of Washington D.C.; dear great-grandchild­ren, Mackenzie and Ethan Elsaesser of Amelia, Ohio.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Cardillo; her twin brother, Donald Schoen, and siblings, Herman Schoen, Loretta McCauley, Marie Schoen, Otto Schoen, Rose Archer, Joseph Schoen, Carl Schoen, Clare McGuire and Harold Schoen.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 12:00pm at Holy Spirit Church 410 Lear Road, Avon Lake, OH 44012. Burial to follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery. www.buschcares.com 440.937.6175
