Lorain man struck by train, dies later of injuries

A 47-year-old Lorain man died when he was struck by a train on the railroad tracks in the 4500 block of West Erie Avenue, according to police.

About 17:17 p.m. Sept. 15, police were called to the site for a report of a man struck by a train.

The Lorain Police Traffic Bureau was called due to the seriousnes­s of the incident. Traffic investigat­ors determined the man, identified as James Hughes, 47, was walking on the tracks when he was struck by a westbound train.

LifeCare paramedics began emergency medical treatment and Hughes was taken to Mercy Health — Lorain Hospital, then Cleveland Metro Medical Center. He died of his injuries several days later, according to police.
