Lake Ridge students to clean area parks

Service day set for Sept. 24

- Staff report

Lake Ridge Academy, 37501 Center Ridge Road in North Ridgeville, will kick off its annual commitment to community service Sept. 24 with its Year of Service Kick-Off Day.

Students will travel to Lorain County parks to clean up grounds and learn about plants, animals and resources in their natural settings, according to a news release from Lake Ridge.

The day builds a sense of community while giving students a chance to learn about the importance of service for others and environmental responsibility, the release said.

“This is our 12th year of service, and it highlights what makes Lake Ridge Academy so special,” said Head of School Mitch White, in the release. “We are a small K-12 school, where younger students are mentored by older students, and where a natural world education makes our curriculum come alive.”

“Our commitment to service is more than just one day,” said Sara Svoboda, coordinator of Year of Service and Learning Specialist for grades 6-12, in the release. “This is a year-long experience where our students help others in their community as they work together to fill food pantries, organize clothing drives and fulfill holiday wish lists.

“Our students are caring and compassionate, and they know they can make a difference.”

Lake Ridge Academy is a private, independent K-12 school.
