All athletic teams in the Lorain County 8 Conference, also known as LC8, will participate in an allday event focusing on leadership, culture, adversity, perseverance and interaction.

The first time event takes place during school hours Sept. 22 at the Black River Middle School, 257 County Road 40 in Sullivan, according to a news release.

The districts in the LC8 conference are Oberlin City Schools; Keystone Local Schools; Firelands Local Schools; Brookside Local School District; Columbia Local Schools; Clearview Local Schools; Wellington Exempted Village School District; and Black River Local Schools.

Each school will be represented with about 15 students on site.

Keystone Local Schools Athletic Director Jon Bailey said the event will focus on future leaders and role models on and off the playing field throughout the LC8, the release said.

“The event is designed to help our young leaders grow in leadership roles in our districts,” Bailey said. “There will be a panel of speakers and presenters. This is our first time doing this type of event, so we hope this grows into the future.”

Oberlin City Schools Athletic Director John Carter said he is looking forward to the conference.

“It is our hope that this will be a great avenue for future leaders and role models to come together in the future as well,” Carter said. “Student athletes are more than just players on the field, court or trails. They embody what an allaround student should be both in school and out of school.”

Students will attend the event in person; and will be socially distanced in the auditorium and grouped by schools, the release said.
