‘Walk the Block’ to focus on street safety
Local health and transportation staff will host an evening program for area residents who want to learn more about making streets safer.
“Walk the Block” will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at Oakwood Park in South Lorain.
The meeting is sponsored by Lorain Connected active transportation committee and Lorain County Public Health.
Participants will take a one-mile walk around Oakwood Park to discuss different types of roads in the city. There will be an explanation of a “Complete Streets” policy and how it would affect future roads.
Walk the Block participants should meet at the Oakwood Park south parking lot near the pool.
The meeting is part of the city’s continuing active transportation planning for a more inclusive Lorain. The goal is planning, designing, constructing and maintaining a safe, comfortable, and efficient roadway network for users of all ages and abilities including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, motorists, commercial and emergency vehicles, according to the city of Lorain Engineering Department.
Active transportation planning helps plan a network that provides connectivity, improves safety, supports consistent project implementation and increases awareness.
