A newly formed local organization is marching for women’s equality.

Let’s Stand For Something Good was organized in late 2020 by two life-long friends who are trained in the legal sector and desired to bring clarity in regards to legal issues.

Organizer Megan Dooley, 41, said she feels it’s important as a lawyer to share her knowledge with the public.

“We try to take complex legal issues and break them down into everyday language,” Dooley said. “We’re taking what we’ve learned and breaking it down so it’s understandable for people.”

Dooley and her counterpart, who requested anonymity, use social media as a resource to educate the public on such issues and encourage people in their day-to-day lives.

The organization will host a Women’s March beginning at 10 a.m., Oct. 2, at Lakeview Park Pavilion No. 5 in Lorain, officials indicated.

The march will entail speakers on a variety of issues as well as live musical entertainment.

Event-goers can become registered to vote and the Lorain County Public Health will distribute information on the novel coronavirus pandemic and other important materials.

The rally is registered under the National Women’s March taking place on the same day in Washington, D.C.

Although the national event is focused solely on abortion justice, Dooley said the local counterpart will tackle a broader spectrum of issues.

“We will touch on access to reproductive care and abortion rights, but we’ve decided to talk about women’s rights more broadly,” she said. “We’ll also talk about voting rights, domestic disputes, health care and the overall representation of women in all sectors.”

Dooley said the march is intended to unite, not divide, the community.

“At the end of the day, we are a community, and what happens to one of us, happens to all of us,” she said. “When one of us rises, we all rise.

“It may not affect one person right now, but it’s affecting someone they love and care about.”

Event organizers are encouraging participants to bring feminine hygiene products to donate to the Genesis House Lorain County Safe Harbor.

“The Genesis House is such an important organization in our community and period poverty is very real,” Dooley said. “People may not always think about donating these things, but they are necessary items that not everyone has the luxury of having.”

There will be a clearly distinct location for eventgoers to place these donations, Dooley said.

She is encouraging all to attend the event.

“It’s going to be a positive and family-friendly event,” Dooley said. “We hope to help people feel supported and included.”

Masks are strongly encouraged and social distancing will be enforced during the event.
