Police arrest man who nearly hit cruiser

A 29-year-old Lorain man was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle under the influence after he nearly rearended an Amherst police officer who was clearing a traffic stop.

At 1:38 a.m., Sept. 18, the officer was wrapping up a traffic stop at the intersecti­on of North Lake State and West Martin Avenue, according to an Amherst police report.

As the officer was entering his vehicle, the Lorain man stopped his vehicle with just four feet between the two vehicles, the report said.

Further investigat­ion led the officer to determine the Lorain man allegedly was under the influence of an opiate drug, according to the report.

Police arrested the man.
