Police identify victims in fatal crash
Elyria police have identified the victims in a fatal crash Sept. 23 on state Route 57 between Cleveland Street and North Abbe Road.
The occupants of a Dodge Caravan that was struck by a Freightliner semi-truck were Stephanie Bays, 68, and Betsy Bays, 46, both of Elyria, according to a news release from Elyria police.
Elyria police had responded to the scene for the crash in which the semi-truck driven by a 57-year-old Lorain man traveling northbound lost control and crossed the median into the southbound lane, striking the Dodge, according to police. After striking the Dodge, the trailer of the semi-truck struck a Cadillac SRX and a Volkswagen Atlas.
Both women were deceased upon police arrival just before 11:30 a.m., the release said.
A 38—year—old Carlisle Township man was the driver of the Cadillac and was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.
He was later transported by helicopter to UH Main Campus in Cleveland.
A 40—year—old Vermilion woman was the driver of the Volkswagen Atlas.
She was transported to UH Elyria Medical Center.
This crash still is under investigation by the Elyria Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit, according to the release.
