A search warrant filed in Lorain County Common Pleas Court revealed additional details on an investigation into a rash of burglaries in Columbia Township.

According to an affidavit, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Brown, 43, of Columbia Township and a female accomplice Sept. 3 for allegedly attempting to break into an address on Nichols Road.

An alarm sounded, and surveillance footage was captured.

According to the female, who has yet to be charged, she and Brown were involved in nine burglaries and thefts during the week of Aug. 29, but she could not remember specific details of each house.

Information she provided was able to connect them directly to four burglaries.

Brown was arrested in Cleveland by Cleveland Police and was reluctant to speak with investigators, but stated he overdosed on cocaine inside the vehicle he was driving, identified as a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander, the affidavit says.

The search warrant filed Sept. 29 obtained by police during Brown’s arrest sought to obtain data from two cellphones believed to belong to him.

Authorities believe the crimes were fueled by substance abuse problems involving illicit street drugs, the affidavit says.

Brown is in the Lorain County Jail on $10,000 bond.

He was charged with felony counts of burglary, theft and breaking and entering, according to court records.
