Ohio Operation Lifesaver will hold railroad crossing safety blitz
Ohio Operation Lifesaver, a rail safety education organization in cooperation with the Ohio Rail Development Commission and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, will hold a safety blitz from 10 a.m. to noon, Oct. 26, at the East Perkins Avenue railroad in Huron Township.
During this event, members of Ohio Operation Lifesaver and Ohio Rail Development Commission will hand out informational swag bags to the vehicles when they are stopped for a train, according to a news release.
Every three hours in the U.S., a vehicle or a person is getting hit by a train, the release said.
Ohio has ranked ninth in the nation for vehicletrain collisions for the past several years, according to the release.
This blitz will spread Ohio Operation Lifesaver’s Rail Safety Education message to help reduce/eliminate rail related incidents in Ohio.
