Derrick “Old E” Lydell English Sr., 60, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2021 while surrounded by family.

Born in Lorain, Ohio to George Sr. and Mary McCall-English, Derrick graduated from Lorain High School in 1980 and joined the US Army to serve as a Combat Engineer. While enlisted, he received a number of good commendati­on ribbons as well as an Overseas Service Ribbon where he was based in Germany for a period of time. After his time in service, he

returned home and establishe­d a youth basketball program that became his true passion, impacting

the lives of young men and women across the area with lasting effects to this day.

He was a very proud father of his children: Derrick English Jr., Darketta English, Jenelle Jackson, Jocelyn Jackson, Jamar Jackson, Denexxus McGhee, Jordan English and step-children: Jason Bugg, Ashley Bugg, and Selena Merrick. Also left to cherish his memory are his loving mother, Mary McCall-English; brothers: Delbert English Sr., George English Jr., Roderick English Sr., and Melvin English; grandchild­ren (who loved their “Poppa” dearly), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Derrick was preceded in death by his father, George English Sr.; maternal grandparen­ts, Isaiah and Elizabeth McCall; paternal grandparen­ts, George and Leola English, and a sister, Vernita M. English.

There will be a public walk-through viewing on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 10am until time of private family services at 12pm. at Faith Ministries Christian Center, 1306 Euclid Ave, Lorain, OH 44052.
