SHAKER HEIGHTS AT LORAIN

What: Lake Erie League

When: 7 p.m., Oct. 7 Where: George Daniel Field Records: Shaker Heights 2-4, Lorain 0-7

Last year: Teams did not play in 2020

For the record: Lorain is still looking for its first win of the season and with three games left on the schedule, this might be their best shot. Shaker Heights sits at 2-4and just beat Shaw by 32 points who were 2-4 at the time. … The Raiders have scored 27 and 38in their last two games, with the former being a point less than Lorain has scored in all seven contests they’ve played in 2021 combined. … The Titans scored over double digits for the first time all year in a Week 7loss to Garfield Heights. It may not seem like much, but it’s tangible evidence that Lorain is getting better. They still aren’t as good as they need to be, especially playing in Division I, Region I, but they’re getting better and at this point in the Damion Creel era, that’s all that matters. … Believe it or not, the Titans are still alive in the playoff hunt. With the playoff field expanded to 16 teams per region in 2021 and D-I, Region I only having 17 teams, either 0-7 Lorain or 0-7 Euclid will sneak into as the 16 seed. Lorain could erase all doubt with a win in Week 8or Week 10— against

Shaw. A win in Week 9 might be the biggest upset in the history of high school sports — and maybe all sports. The Titans travel to unbeaten and No. 2 ranked Medina next week where they’ll see Penn State commit Drew Allar, who torched the area’s No. 2 ranked team, Avon, in Week 2. Way We See It: All four members of the panel are picking Shaker Heights.
