Lorain falls to Shaker Heights on senior night

Titans drop to 0-8 on the year

Lorain’s 20 seniors got one last shot to play on their home field on Oct. 7 as Lorain hosted Shaker Heights. The result wasn’t pretty as Lorain fell, 38-13.

Lorain struggled in the first half, collecting just five net rushing yards. Senior running back Robert Gonzalez tried his best to find holes, but a veteran Shaker front seven didn’t allow many to open up.

Gonzalez caught four passes from quarterback Joseph Wyatt, including a 17-yard touchdown in the early fourth quarter. Wyatt and Gonzalez connected earlier on that scoring drive, picking up 30-plus yards to set up their score.

The score was Lorain’s first home touchdown in 2021. The Titans added another in the closing minute of the game as Wyatt hit freshman Jairo Williams for a 28-yard score while rolling to his left.

Gonzalez also made an impact on defense, breaking up a pass in the end zone that would have been a touchdown in the first quarter. He showed great recovery and closing speed to save his team six points.

Gonzalez is the jack-of-alltrades for a Lorain team that needs guys just like that.
