Donald Frank Chonko, age 90, a lifelong resident of Lorain passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021, with his daughters by his side at Mercy New Life Hospice Center.

He was born on January 9, 1931, in Lorain, Ohio to Frank and Rose (nee Smith) Chonko. Donald was a graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1949 A. He served his country with the United States Marines during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the 3rd. Division.

Donald retired as a General Foreman from U.S. Steel in 1984 after 35 years of service. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lorain. For several years he delivered Meals on Wheels, served as a Boy Scout Cub Master, and coached Little League Baseball. He was a talented artist and enjoyed woodworkin­g, and fishing. Donald’s family was his life, and he cherished the love of his wife, Ruth for 62 years.

He is survived by his daughters, Susan Wengryniuk, and Stephanie (Victor) Takacs; grandchild­ren, Kelly Sabo, Matthew Chonko, Brian Chonko, Kristen Wengryniuk, Nicholas Takacs, Allison Takacs, and Kylie Wengryniuk; great-grandchild­ren, Tristan Sabo and Harrison Chonko; and his sister, Evelyn Connell.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; and his sons, Howard and Keith Chonko.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, from 5:00 – 7: 00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park

Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
