Library names new board member
Retired teacher joins board
Lorain Public Library System has announced the addition of Richard Ackerman, retired teacher and school administrator, as the newest member of its Board of Trustees, according to a news release.
Ackerman replaces Dr. Garalynn Tomas, whose term expired at the end of December.
Ackerman’s term will expire Dec. 31, 2028.
Ackerman has lived in Lorain County for over 70 years.
After earning a bachelor of science from
Ohio State University and a masters’ degree from John Carroll University, he went on to an extensive career with Elyria City Schools, the release said.
“Because of the parallels between the school’s missions, goals and funding and that of the library, we felt Mr. Ackerman’s experience and insight would be quite beneficial,” Lorain Public Library System Director Anastasia DiamondOrtiz said in the release.
Ackerman is president of his condominium association as well as chairman of the Sheffield on the Lake Association.
“Continuous improvement guides my life’s work,” Ackerman said in the release. “I love to study history to inform future decisions.” He is a classic car enthusiast with an extensive collection of 1950s model Fords, according to the release.
In his spare time, Ackerman enjoys caring for their century home and surrounding property.
The 2022 Lorain Public Library System Board of Trustees also includes newly elected officers President Gloria Badillo, Vice President Tom Dake, Secretary Tiffany McClelland and members Ethel Schiemann, Monica Snipes and Milagros Torres.
