Lorain resident to helm program at Tri-C
Also assumes role in regional tech prep
A Lorain woman has assumed a new role at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C).
Naima Lusane recently was promoted as executive director of College & Career Readiness and Northeast Ohio Tech Prep Region chief administrator.
Lusane is a Philadelphia native, but relocated to Lorain in 1990.
“I grew up in Philadelphia, so I understand that the majority of youth aren’t being exposed to certain opportunities,” she said. “My passion is to help students have different experiences and help them realize that they’re not left behind.”
The Northeast Ohio Tech Prep Regional Center is a part of Tri-C and partners with seven colleges and universities.
The initiative serves students pursuing, and districts offering, high-quality career-technical education classes and programs.
Lusane said she is beyond happy in her new position.
“God keeps opening doors for me in different areas; I’m excited, but it’s new for me,” she said. “I have the opportunity to help students who may be at risk of not graduating, and create new pathways between Tri-C and different school districts across Northeast Ohio.”
Lusane began her journey at Tri-C in 2014 as director of Upward Bound Math and Science TRiO Program, and later in 2017, became the program manager of Educational Talent Search TRiO Program.
She also serves as treasurer of National Council on Black American Affairs North Central Region.
Lusane said the position will allow her to use previous experience to help students.
“I’ve worked out with the youth, and now, I have a different influence through conversations with administration and sitting on boards,” she said. “It will allow me to voice the things I’ve seen, and hopefully, they’ll pay attention more to those areas or be willing to implement new ideas.”
Ohio College Tech Prep Regional Centers foster relationships between business and industry, K-12 and post-secondary education administrators, and connect students to workbased learning experiences.
The center builds quality programs of study for high school students pursuing career-technical post-secondary education.
Ohio College Tech Prep Regional Centers provide professional development experiences for educators, administrators and business and industry professionals.
