Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital achieves Magnet honor
Highest recognition is for professional nursing practice
Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital, 33300 Cleveland Clinic Blvd., has received Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), which is the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice, according to a news release.
“Avon Hospital’s nursing team has been committed to the highest quality care since we opened in 2016,” said Rebecca Starck, M.D., president of Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital. “To achieve this prestigious designation during these most challenging times in health care, affirms the commitment to excellence and teamwork that our nursing team embraces.”
The American Nurses Credentialing Center is the world’s largest nurse credentialing organization and is a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association.
The American Nurses Credentialing Center describes its Magnet recognition program as recognizing healthcare organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice, according to the release.
To achieve Magnet recognition, organizations go through an extensive review and evaluation of their nursing practices by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
The process includes the review of documentation and a site visit by American Nurses Credentialing Center professionals who evaluate the hospital against numerous standards that represent excellence in nursing services, clinical outcomes and patient care delivery.
“Becoming nationally recognized for excellence in nursing is an extraordinary achievement,” said Mary Sauer, chief nursing officer of Avon Hospital. “This significant designation reflects Avon Hospital’s commitment to a culture focused on quality and safety, as well as patient and caregiver experience.
“I am honored and humbled to work with such an amazing group of caregivers.”
With this achievement, Avon Hospital joins a select group of more than 500 health care institutions worldwide.
It is the 10th hospital in the Cleveland Clinic health system to earn Magnet designation.
“This remarkable accomplishment was a goal that the team set from the moment the hospital first opened,” said Meredith A. Foxx, executive chief nursing officer of the Stanley Shalom Zielony Institute for Nursing Excellence. “The nursing team rose to the occasion even during a pandemic and showcased the work they do every day to care for patients, support their professional development and give back to the community.
“I am so proud of the Avon nursing team for achieving this highest form of nursing excellence.”
