Vision of Beauty Cotillion to recognize seniors

Students participat­ing from Elyria, Lorain, North Ridgeville

The fourth annual Vision of Beauty Cotillion will present this year’s debutantes at 6 p.m., March 19, at The 8820, located at 8820 Bender Road in North Ridgeville.

Council Negro Women Inc., eight young women who are Elyria High School seniors, along with two from Lorain High School and one from Marion L. Steele High School will receive honors for their commitment to their communitie­s and their transition into adulthood, according to a news release.

The public is welcome to celebrate the young African

American women at the formal event, the release said.

Debutantes are: Mary Betterson, daughter of Dr. John and Monique Betterson; Jade Cain, daughter of Leslie Cain; Avani Cavin, daughter of Shaquanna Young and Aaron Cavin; Kahleyla Hale, daughter of Shalandra and David Hale Jr.; Shanice Gatewood, daughter of Nicholas and Shavonda Gatewood; Toviel Jackson, daughter of Tanya Jackson; Alexis Jones, daughter of Gerald and Chiquita Jones; Ramaya Lee-Mosely, daughter of Lydia Lee and Ramsei Mosely; Sierra Mobley, daughter of Shateka Fields and Brian Mobley; Sakiya Smith, daughter of Teela Smith and Ian Robbins; and Deja Whitten, daughter of Kenneth and Jacqueline White.

Each debutante will be escorted by a high school senior, according to Tamara L. Jones, cotillion coordinato­r.

Cotillion Committee members are Jones, Regan L. Phillips and choreograp­her Elaine Shores, said the release.

From August to March, the teens attend workshops, participat­e in community service, prepare for college, learn how to have healthy relationsh­ips and to work together, Jones said.

Tickets are $50 per person and monetary donations are welcomed.
