State awards $50K lead service line mapping grant
“Avon Lake Regional Water’s policy on lead services lines is to immediately replace them when found for the, health, safety and welfare of the public.” — Robert Munro, chief utilities executive for Avon Lake Regional Water
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Ohio EPA Director Laurie A. Stevenson announced May 6 $2.1 million in H2Ohio grant assistance for public water systems to begin addressing lead water pipes in their communities through mapping projects.
Avon Lake Regional Water will receive $50,000 in grant funding from the H2Ohio grant assistance program, according to a news release.
Avon Lake Regional Water is one of 48 Ohio public water systems across 31 counties to receive funding, the release said.
“Providing safe, clean drinking water to our customers is top priority for Avon Lake Regional Water staff and the Avon Lake Board of Municipal Utilities,” said Robert Munro, chief utilities executive for Avon Lake Regional Water. “Avon Lake Regional Water’s policy on lead services lines is to immediately replace them when found for the, health, safety and welfare of the public.
“Receiving this $50,000 grant from Ohio EPA will help Avon Lake Regional Water move one step closer to removing and replacing all lead service lines in Avon Lake.”
Avon Lake Regional Water will use the funding to purchase new data management software that will integrate all GIS, asset management and lead service line data into one comprehensive application, according to the release.
Integration of all data will assist Avon Lake Regional Water’s staff in both water line construction and unplanned and planned water line repair and maintenance, the release said.
“Integrating all of our data into one comprehensive system will allow for the effective replacement of all lead service lines in Avon Lake,” Munro said. “On behalf of the Avon Lake Board of Municipal Utilities and staff, we thank Gov. DeWine and Ohio EPA Director Stevenson for this grant award and their continued commitment to safe, clean drinking water.”
