ALL-OHIOAN TRANSFERS FROM OPEN DOOR TO LORAIN
In the Rising Stars' Game at Lorain High School, Open Door's Jaiden Howard-Guerra won the Most Valuable Player award.
May 17, the Open Door AllOhio player and Lorain native announced he is transferring to play at Lorain High School.
The announcement was made on Instagram to return to the Steel City.
For the Patriots, HowardGuerra averaged 20.3 points per game. Open Door went 5-17 (1-3 in the Lake Effect Conference) and fell to Lake Ridge, 72-64, in the first round of the Division IV playoffs.
The start of his junior year at Lorain will also be Titans coach Matthew Kielian's second year with the team after going 9-14 (6-7 in the Lake Erie League).
Kielian is excited to have Howard-Guerra return to represent the city of Lorain.
“We are excited to have Jaiden (Howard-Guerra) back as a part of our program once again,” he said in a statement. “He played for our Junior Titan teams in elementary school. He is going to be a great addition to our school and athletic community. We look forward to helping him succeed both educationally and on the court.”
Despite having a losing record, the Titans had success in the Division I state tournament with a win over Copley at the buzzer and advanced to a sectional final. Lorain was eliminated by Olmsted Falls, the Southwestern Conference champions.
The Titans' roster had five seniors a season ago — including first-team All-Lake Erie League selection Jordan Daniels. Daniels averaged 14.8 points per game for Lorain and hit the game-winner against Copley.
Returning players for Lorain will be all-county honorable mentions Asiah Kielian, a sophomore, and junior Christian Ruiz.
