Avon Lake’s path: Def. Lakewood, 43-24, and Medina, 56-39
Up next: The winner plays the winner of Millbury Lake District in a Division I Sandusky Regional semifinal.
Outlook: This game is a flex for the Southwestern Conference: Two of the three SWC teams left in the tournament are playing each other for the right to go to Sandusky. Olmsted Falls swept Avon Lake, 52-33, in the second game of the season. They also won, 56-40, in January, but Avon Lake managed to tie the game, 24-24, at halftime. Olmsted Falls went on an18-4third-quarter run to win. Avon Lake can make the game interesting, but don’t get it twisted that Olmsted Falls is a favorite by a wide margin. Historically speaking, Avon Lake did knock off the Bulldogs in a 2019district final.
Paige Kohler and Mia Kalich were in middle school at the time. Both players reached double figures in Olmsted Falls’ 72-38win over Westlake, but Jessica Wolanin scored 13 points as well. Avon Lake likes to spread the wealth when it comes to scoring. Marisa Summerfield (10), Izzie Polinko (11), Courtney Borland (10) and Claire Springer (15) recorded double-digit scoring efforts in the Shoregals’ 56-39district semifinal win over Medina.
