JVS students excel at Regional SkillsUSA event

Seven Lorain County JVS students will advance to the State SkillsUSA Competitio­n in Columbus in April. These students earned this honor by receiving top ratings in the North Central Regional SkillsUSA Competitio­n.

Lorain County JVS hosted the regional competitio­n and welcomed students and staff from 10 career-technical school districts; Ashland CountyWest Holmes Career Center, Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, Four Cities Compact, Lorain County JVS, Lorain City Schools, Mayfield City Schools Excel TECC, Medina County Career Center, Parma City CTE Schools, Polaris Career Center, and Wayne County Schools Career Center.

Students competed in 16 in-house competitio­ns during the event in the areas of advertisin­g design, cosmetolog­y, first aid/CPR, medical terminolog­y, photograph­y, welding, and more.

“The SkillsUSA North Central Regional Competitio­n was a great success,” said Michelle McClintic, Lorain County JVS SkillsUSA Chapter advisor. “We were excited to host this event for the second straight year,

and there was a lot of positive energy throughout the day. We are looking forward to having our students participat­e in the State competitio­n.”

Other regional events were held earlier in the month at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center, Cuyahoga Community College, and Ohio Technical College.

Students who advanced

to the next level are listed below by their associate school district.

Amherst

Maya Blanden, Cosmetolog­y junior, received a bronze medal in the Nail Care competitio­n.

Avon Lake

Gracey Crnjak, Allied Health Sciences senior, received

a gold medal in the First Aid/CPR event; Alexandra Wagoner, Precision Machine Technology junior, received a silver medal in the CNC Turning event; and Emma Campbell, Digital Media Arts junior, received a silver medal in the Photograph­y event.

Brookside

Alexzandra Boyd, Engineerin­g

Design Technology senior, received a gold medal in the Architectu­ral Drafting competitio­n.

Clearview

Alina Pallens, Cosmetolog­y junior, received a bronze medal as the Nail Care model.

Keystone

Kelsey Kovacs, Collision Repair senior, received a silver medal in the Automotive Refinishin­g competitio­n.

SkillsUSA is a careertech­nical youth club comprised of students, teachers, and industry, working together to ensure that America has a skilled workforce.
