Athletes of the week Jack Sivec KEYSTONE>>BASEBALL SENIOR>>THIRD BASE

On the diamond: Sivec went 7-for-16 with a double and two home runs, with the two homers in the same game bringing his total to five for the year. He had eight RBI and hit a walk-off single against Norwalk, Off the diamond: Sivec will be playing baseball at Baldwin Wallace next spring. His favorite sports team is the Guardians, favorite thing to do is play baseball, and his favorite athlete is fellow Keystone teammate Brock Miller.

Molly Sheehan

OLMSTED FALLS>>SOFTBALL FRESHMAN>>PITCHER/CENTER FIELD On the diamond: Sheehan threw a no-hitter against Lorain in the sectional round and went 1-1 over 22 ⅔ innings pitched with 22strikeou­ts to six walks and two saves while also batting .357. Off the diamond: Among Sheehan’s favorite hobbies are working out/exercising and hanging out with friends. Her favorite school subject relates to bio-med and sciences and her summer league team is the Lake Erie Warhawks.

Ethan Reynolds NORTH RIDGEVILLE>>BASEBALL SENIOR>>FIRST BASE

On the diamond: Reynolds had the go-ahead two-run single in the top of the 10th inning as a pinch hitter vs. Avon Lake in the SWC conference title-clinching win to end a 41-year conference title drought. He batted .571with a double, six RBI and two runs scored.

Off the diamond: Known to most as “Big E,” Reynolds will be playing baseball at Terra State Community College. In his own words, Reynolds says “I have been playing baseball since I was 4 years old and I have been playing football since I was 6. For the longest time all I can remember is playing sports, that’s just how I was raised. I am planning on majoring in clinical psychology and getting a P.h.D so I can run my own private practice.”

Ella Baker

AMHERST>>GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD SENIOR>>100, 200, 400, 4×400

On the track: Baker swept the top of the podium in all four of her events at the SWC Conference meet, with first-place finishes in 100-meter dash with a school record time of 12.05, the 200 (25.16), the 400 (56.10) and 4×400 meter relay (4:01.19).

Off the track: Baker will be attending Ohio University to run in track and field. Her favorite sports memory is finishing on the podium at the 2022 state meet. Her favorite school subject is French, favorite food spaghetti.

Nathan Seguin ELYRIA CATHOLIC>>BASEBALL JUNIOR>>OUTFIELD/PITCHER/FIRST BASE

On the diamond: Seguin earned a win over three appearance­s (one start) last week, going 7 2/3 innings, while only allowing four hits, one run and striking out 11batters. His start and win against Fairview went five innings where he struck out eight Warriors hitters.

Off the diamond: From Elyria, the “Natedog” says his favorite baseball memory is making it to the Lorain County Hot-stove State Championsh­ip in 2016. In his free time, he enjoys going to Cedar Point with his friends, swimming and working at an ice cream shop.

Ayden Cruz CLEARVIEW>>BASEBALL JUNIOR>>CENTER FIELD

On the diamond: Cruz hit for a .545 batting average, notching a four-hit effort against Lorain along with five steals throughout the week and a multi-hit game against Firelands.

Off the diamond: Cruz’s favorite sports memory is playing football. He enjoys fishing and being in nature. His favorite subject is science, favorite food is steak, favorite movie being “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” favorite show is “Outer Banks” or “Stranger Things,” favorite song is “Revival” by Zach Bryan.

VERMILION>>BASEBALL SOPHOMORE>>SHORTSTOP/PITCHER On the diamond: Schwarck collected nine hits, including a double and triple, last week with seven RBI while hitting for a .500average.

Off the diamond: In Schwarck’s own words, “My favorite baseball memory is when I hit an inside-the-park home run and put my team back in the game. My favorite hobbies are playing video games and playing games with my family.”

Anthony DeMartinis ELYRIA CATHOLIC>>BOYS TRACK AND FIELD JUNIOR>>110-, 300-METER HURDLES

On the track: At the Great Lakes Conference Meet last week, DeMartinis finished first in the 110and 300-meter hurdles and fifth as the lead leg in the 4×100-meter relay.

Off the track: From Elyria, the kid known most often as “Rocco” said in his own words, “My favorite memory from this season would be getting out of this slump that I was in a few weeks ago to then going on to being the GLC hurdles champion and Co-Runner of the Year.”
