Vermilion’s Ritter Public Library, 5680 Liberty Ave., will hold its first-ever joint author fair on Aug. 13.

Welcoming four local authors, this fair is not a new occurrence for the library, or authors.

“We have hosted various local authors at Ritter in the past, but have never had them come together all at once,” said Chloe Browne, community engagement librarian. “The idea actually comes from Jessica Dusner, our adult services librarian who wanted to bring different genres and authors together for one big event.”

Happening at the library from 2 to 4 p.m., guests will have the opportunity to meet the authors, purchase signed copies of their works and hear them read samples.

“We are hoping to generate more excitement for the authors who are coming to the event by providing a wide range of genres aimed at all ages,” Browne said. “We will also have free local treats provided by Hometown Bakery in downtown during the event.”

According to Browne and Dusner, the selection of authors were chosen by reaching out to local groups including the Great Lakes Writers Association. The pair say they also hope to make the event a recurring one.

“This is like a trial run for us which is why we only have four authors, but we hope to grow it to include upwards to 10 at a time,” Dusner said.

The authors present at the event include Otto Borsich, “A Chef Is Born”; Wendy Fedan, illustrator, “Chicken Fun”; Liz Ferro, “Finish Line Feeling”; and Emilia Rosa “Finding Christina: A New Life.”

The genres range from children to young adult, adult fiction and autobiography.

“Like all events at Ritter, this will be free and open to the public,” Browne said. “We are looking forward to the event and we hope that our guests are, too.”
