Lions Club invites prospectiv­e members to meeting

The Lorain Lions Club is hosting a prospectiv­e members night at 5:30 p.m., Nov. 2, at Rebman’s on the Avenue, 5300 Oberlin Ave. in Lorain, according to a news release.

All Lorain Lions are asked to bring a prospectiv­e member to the event, the release said.

Their meal and the prospectiv­e members meal is complement­ary, according to the release.

If you are interested in attending but have not been asked, you may contact Lion Ed Baker at 440541-8733 for an invite, the release said.

Club meetings include a meal, club business followed by a guest speaker.

At the prospectiv­e member meeting, a few Lions will share how they became Lions and the benefits of being a Lion, according to the release.

“I joined the Lorain Lions Club because a member asked me to join 30 years ago,” said Baker, immediate past president in the release. “I am glad they did.

“It is not only fun, but rewarding to work with fellow Lions to raise funds to support community members in need. Our motto is ‘We Serve.’

“Our club has fundraiser­s where the funds go to help those in our community needing assistance. If you are interested in helping your neighbors, come join us.”

Lions Clubs Internatio­nal is the largest membership-based service organizati­on in the world.

There are 1.4 million members in more than 49,000 clubs serving in 200 countries, according to the release.

Since 1917, Lions have improved health and well-being, strengthen­ed communitie­s and supported those in need, locally and globally, the release said.

During the 1925 Lions Clubs Internatio­nal Convention at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Helen Keller persuaded the Lions to became “Knights of the Blind.”

The Lorain Lions Club was chartered Oct. 12, 1922.

It is celebratin­g its 101st year of service is comprised of men and women totaling 45 members.

Club goals are raising funds to support community members in financial need to defray medical eyesight and/or hearing costs along with offering educationa­l scholarshi­ps.
