Four Wellington residents are running to fill three seats on Village Council in the Nov. 7 non-partisan general election.

The terms are four years each.

Stephen Boham, Mark Bughman, Helen Dronsfield and Guy Wells are vying for the seats.

Here are some of the responses that the candidates provided to a questionnaire from The Morning Journal:

Stephen Boham

Boham wrote that the first priority of a village council member must be to the people in the community.

“Establish and maintain needed infrastructure and services that support public safety and quality of life for residents and businesses,” Boham wrote. “Revitalize our downtown, upgrading public facilities and keeping necessary costs in line with our income.

“A new voice can bring fresh ideas, insights and experience, with a fresh perspective and creativity.”

Mark Bughman

Helen Dronsfield

Dronsfield wrote that as a council member, she would like to continue the projects that she has been involved in with the mayor, village manager and other council members.

“These projects include the completion of the police station, the regulation of our water, sewer and electric metering systems for more accuracy, and the continuing work of our public works department to keep our village facilities and streets safe,” Dronsfield wrote.

Dronsfield, who has served on council for more than 20 years, wrote, “As a council member, I take the financial responsibilities of the village seriously. Our village is fiscally sound which is something to be proud of. I have been involved with the police department as we have built a new police station which gives our department a facility that will be utilized by all the policemen under one roof. This facility will serve Wellington well into the future.”

Guy Wells

Wells wrote that for nearly 30 years, he has worked to move Wellington in positive directions, improve the quality and safety of Wellington’s life and maintain the spirit that always has given Wellington a unique uplift.

“I’m proud of my role in getting things built — the Metro Park, the railroad underpass, downtown sidewalks and parking lots, a new electrical substation, a vastly improved police force — that serve everyone in the village every day,” Wells wrote. “I’m proud that projects we’ve worked on for years — like the new police station and railroad quiet zones are finally on the way to completion.

“These will promote our safety and quality of living for years to come. Most of all, I love Wellington’s unique spirit of friendliness and civility that have nurtured me and countless Wellington people all my life. Keeping these safe and alive for the next generations will be our greatest legacy.”
