Bemstrom lifts Monsters in OT

Emil Bemstrom scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the first-place Monsters to a 4-3 victory over host Toronto on Nov. 26.

Bemstrom scored the last two goals of the game. He tied at 3-3 with a goal midway through the third period, then won it 4:23 into OT. He has nine goals this season.

Carson Meyer and Kent Johnson also scored for Cleveland (124-1-0).

Trey Fix-Wolansky had two assists, giving him 15 for the year.

Jet Greaves made 22 saves.

The Monsters, who have won four in a row, are off until Dec. 2, when they host Utica.

College football HARBAUGH WOULD TAKE PAYCUT TO HELP PLAYERS >>

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is ready to put his money where his mouth is if it means college football players and other athletes would be paid. He said he would take less pay if that would help athletes to get paid by the schools. He said he hopes other coaches would make the same offer.

TEXAS A&M SEARCH FOCUSES ON DUKE COACH >>

Texas A&M is working on a deal to hire Duke coach Mike Elko, replacing Jimbo Fisher with his former defensive coordinato­r for four years in College Station. A person with direct knowledge of the discussion­s told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that an agreement hasn’t been finalized but Elko has emerged as the school’s top target.

INDIANA COACH GETS $15.5M BUYOUT >>

Football coach Tom Allen and Indiana are parting ways. Allen had four years left on a contract he received in 2021 and was owed $20.8 million. The two sides reached a financial settlement worth $15.5 million. It would be the biggest buyout ever paid by a Big Ten school, surpassing the $15 million Scott Frost receiver from Nebraska last year.

HOUSTON FIRES COACH >>

The Houston Cougars fired football coach Dana Holgorsen a day after finishing his third losing season in five years. The Cougars ended the year with three consecutiv­e losses, capped by a 27-13 defeat at UCF.

OHIO STATE DOWN TO SIXTH IN POLL >>

No. 3 Washington, No. 4 Florida State and No. 5 Oregon all moved up a spot in The Associated Press college football poll to give the Pac-12 two top-five teams for the first time since the final ranking of the 2016 season. Georgia remained No. 1 and received 52 of 62 first-place votes. Michigan returned to No. 2 following a week at No. 3 and received 10 first-place votes after beating Ohio State 30-24. The Buckeyes slipped from second to No. 6 and cleared the way for Washington to reach its best ranking since finishing the 2000 season at No. 3.

NBA DURANT, PORZINGIS, HOLIDAY OUT >>

Kevin Durant missed a second consecutiv­e game because of a sore right foot, leaving the Suns star unable to play in his first game in New York since being traded last February from Brooklyn . ... The Celtics were missing two starters against the Hawks as Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday are sidelined with injuries. Holiday is out for the second straight game with a sprained right ankle. Porzingis strained his left calf in a loss at Orlando on Nov. 24, and is out, too.
