Elyria Catholic High School, 725 Gulf Road in Elyria, will host an open house from 6-8 p.m., April 25, for current middle school students who are interested in attending the school.

Students and their families will have the chance to meet with faculty, staff, students and coaches during the event.

Annie Cunningham, director of marketing and communications for Elyria Catholic, said the spring open house primarily is targeted at current sixth and seventh graders in the area.

“In the spring, we like to get started with the younger students to give them an opportunity to start looking at high schools,” Cunningham said. “Throughout the spring, we have several opportunities for students to visit Elyria Catholic.”

The school held a retreat for seventh graders April 13 and is hosting multiple seventh grade experience days where the students can spend the day at the school, she said.

Elyria Catholic also will hold a practice High School Placement Test event May 18 for seventh graders who may take the real test next fall, Cunningham said.

The open house is targeted at students who have not yet been to Elyria Catholic, she said.

“It’s a really nice idea for families because so many students are looking at high schools earlier and earlier, and it’s really important for them to be able to determine where they’d like to go,” said Cunningham, who emphasized the strength of Elyria Catholic’s academic and extracurricular opportunities as well as the support students receive from the staff. “I think a lot of people walk in here and realize that you immediately feel like a family.

“Our faculty and staff are here to work with our students and provide them the best opportunity to be successful. I think it’s nice for families to see the difference that a Catholic education can make and give (the students) a foundation for their future.”
