Hope Boykin

When Hope Boykin ended her two-decade career as a beloved dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, last year, she had already been raising her voice as a skilled choreographer with an urge to communicate. But since then she’s been letting that side of herself speak more freely. For “An Evening of Hope,” a program at the 92nd Street Y on Oct. 21 (and streaming on the Y’s Web site Oct. 22-24), she showcases a new work, “Redefine US, from the INside OUT,” and revises a few older ones in the light of her newfound confidence.—Brian Seibert (
