Daily single lane closures can be expected on SOM Center Road in Eastlake due to road construction.

Work started March 20 to the Route 91 (SOM Center Road) bridge over Route 2, Lakeland Boulevard, and the CSX Railroad tracks.

Currently, the southbound lane of Route 91 is reduced to one lane between Vine Street and Euclid Avenue

According to a media release from the Ohio Department of Transportation, northbound Route 91 will be reduced down to one lane between Vine Street and Euclid Avenue, starting March 29.

“At that time all traffic will be shifted to the northbound lanes of the Route 91 bridge and will be maintained with one lane in each direction,” according to the media release.

Left turns from Route 91 north and southbound to enter Route 2 will be prohibited.

Motorist on Route 91 heading for Route 2 west will have to detour on Route 2 east to Vine Street and then on to Route 2 west. Motorists traveling Route 91 to Route 2 will need to detour east on Vine Street to Route 2 east.

The detours and single lanes are expected to last through the fall, according to the ODOT release.

“It is currently anticipated that a majority of the bridge deck replacement and overlay work will be completed by the end of the 2017 construction season,” Eastlake Mayor Dennis Morley reported in his March Gazette article. “But, there will be work in 2018 from April through the end of June to restore the SR 91 median, place the final asphalt pavement, stripe the pavement and install signs. All work is scheduled to be complete by June 29, 2018,”

Morley advises residents that whenever possible, alternate routes should be utilized to access Route 2 and for transiting north and south into and out of Eastlake during the construction.

ODOT encourages motorists to sign up at www.dot.state.oh.us/to receive updates via email on this project or other ODOT construction projects occurring in Lake County.
