Make plans to drop by new Stella’s Art Gallery
Spring has sprung. Hooray!
Now it’s time wrap our heads around those beautiful balmy summer days when we get to meander through Northeast Ohio’s outdoor art venues. If you plan to participate, best get busy. Deadlines are sneaky little devils — just ask my editor.
If you missed the entry deadline for this year’s Art by the Falls in Chagrin Falls, it’s time to make plans to attend this delightful event and get it on your calendar for June 10 and 11.
And while you have that calendar open make note of these dates: the 37th Wildwood Fine Arts & Wine Festival will be held June 17, the Willoughby ArtsFest is set for July 15, and Painesville’s Art in the Park is on Aug. 19. And that is just the beginning. I’ll keep you up to speed on these and more.
Remember, we are blessed with an abundance photo, art shows and more around these parts. Be prepared. All being an artist requires is creating art. Next comes being a good artist by making it better, then a great artist by continuing the journey of creating and learning.
Stella’s Art Gallery
It is with immense pleasure that I announce the official opening of Stella’s Art Gallery in Mentor’s Matchworks building, 8500 Station St. The weeklong series of opening events kicks off at 7 p.m. March 31. It’s free and open to the public. Please check it out and give them a warm welcome.
In addition to participating in Lakeland Community College’s Gallery exhibit “from Woman X” exhibit, SAG artists are also presenting “Incipience: Coming Together” plus their grand opening. Now there’s a trifecta to delight the senses, or frazzle your nerves if you’re the one pulling it all together.
Featured Incipience artists include Dani Klein, Carol Pitts, Jodi Baldacci, Candace Barr, Blackline Photography, Nancy Nelson-Brotz, Natalie Catania Nelson, Julie Cook, and Record Time: Jeff Siyver.
The week will be full of activities — some free, some $10 or less — to introduce the gallery and its collection of talented artists to the public. Visit their Facebook page or stop the gallery for more information.
“Stella’s Art Gallery’s mission is to provide high-quality artwork and classes for you to enjoy by local artisans from Northeast Ohio,” artist Dani Klein said. “We want to create a space that I call a ‘working gallery.’ You will come and have an artful experience with us. You can enjoy a workshop, class, watch a demonstration, interact with the artists and, of course, buy local art.
“For our grand opening, we will be introducing Arin Altomare, Lori Fuller, Sandro Marusic, John Plymak, Lisa Ruschman, Eva Volf, Perris Mackey, Diane Fleisch-Hughes and more. We would like to welcome back Andrew Jeffries, Diane Carswell, Stephanie Pratt-McRoberts, Nathan Hager, and Glassthatrocks along with our Incipience artists.”
The Matchworks building soon will be home to Fourks, a restaurant scheduled to open at the end of April. They also plan to open patio seating for the summer. Add a spa and I’m moving in.
“A yoga studio will be up and running the same time we are,” Klein said. “Makes for a great destination space. We currently have nine studios filled and two other working artists in the building”

Created by women, of women & about women,” showing in the Gallery at Lakeland Community College, 7700 Clocktower Drive, Kirtland, kicks it up a notch on March 26 when it hosts the annual Woman of Achievement Awards Ceremony at 2 p.m., which will be followed by a reception. The show will remain on display through March 31.
Next up is the Lakeland Community College Visual Arts Student Exhibition. It will run April 9 through May 4. An awards ceremony and artist reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. April 13.
The eighth annual “May Show” at Lakeland Gallery will accept entries May 6 through 8. Get your work finished and ready to display.

Valley Art Center
Celebrate Women’s History Month by visiting Valley Art Center, 155 Bell St., Chagrin Falls, and view ‘Women’s Work” in the Margaret “Peg” Bowen Gallery March 25 through May 7.
Guest curator Mary Urbas — yes, the aforementioned gallery coordinator at Lakeland — has created an exhibit of regional women who create thought provoking work in a variety of media. The show will include some favorite local artists and promises to introduce some new ones to the gallery space.
VAC always seems to come up with clever and fun themes for their art shows. This one is no exception. Keep “Fin, Fur & Feathers” in mind as you work creatively this spring and summer. That is the theme for VAC September show. They will begin seeking entries this summer.
Euclid Art Association
The next meeting of the Euclid Art Association will be at 7 p.m. April 3 at the East Shore Methodist Church, 32002 Lake Shore Blvd., Euclid. Appropriate to the season, Suzie Murcer will demonstrate “The Magic of the Egg.”
Murcer will share her technique and the history of Ukrainian egg painting and the Faberge egg during her presentation. She will also have samples and items to sell — just in time for Easter.
