Classes to help with eReaders, tablets
Mentor Public Library is offering free classes to people who have an eReader or tablet but aren’t sure how to get the most out of them.
With a little instruction, that device can be a repository for the books, magazines and even movies.
These classes are open to everyone. The first session is 6:30 p.m. July 12 at MPL’s Main Branch — 8215 Mentor Ave. It’s specifically for those with Kindles and Kindle Fires.
The second session at 10 a.m. July 15 at the Main Branch, is for those with tablets (including iPads) and smartphones.

Volunteers sought for Willoughby Artsfest
Willoughby Western Lake County Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Downtown Willoughby Artsfest, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 15.
With an estimated attendance of 15,000 people, volunteers are needed to assist in many areas, including; setup in the morning, directing traffic in the morning, assisting with auction tent and wine tent throughout the day, assisting with the information booth and closing in the evening.

Morley offers Afternoon Matinee
Morley Public Library, 184 Phelps St. in Painesville, will host Family Afternoon Matinee movies from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays in the Story Room.
Families with children ages 12 and younger can grab a floor cushion and get comfortable, and there will be a different family-friendly movie every Wednesday afternoon during the Children’s Summer Reading Club.
Covered beverages and movie snacks are permitted, but they must stay in the Story Room and families are asked to clean up afterwards.
Parents must stay with children ages 8 and younger, as this is not a drop-off program. No registration is needed.
Help celebrate Hemingway’s birthday
Geauga County Public Library is hosting a birthday celebration on Ernest Hemingway’s birthday and the community is invited.
“A Moveable Feast” will take place at 7 p.m. July 21, at Orchard Hills Park, 11340 Caves Road in Chester Township.
The free event is for those 21 and older.
Various food stations will offer bite-size appetizers, wines, petit entrees, desserts and Hemingway-inspired trivia, live music and the Bookmobile.
Attendees can test their trivia skills for a chance to win a gift basket. Vintage 1920s clothing is encouraged.
This event is likely to fill to capacity, so registration is required at GeaugaLibrary.net (click the green “Register for an event” tile) or call 440729-4250.
Gift shop sale to aid Lake Health Auxiliary
Lake Health Auxiliary will host a large summer gift shop sale to benefit the auxiliary.
Sales will be in the lobby 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 19 at TriPoint Medical Center, 7590 Auburn Road in Concord Township, and at West Medical Center, 36000 Euclid Ave. in Willoughby. A large selection of holiday, winter, and clearance items for sale will be marked 50 percent to 75 percent off. Sales are open to the general public.

Hospice to hold classes for volunteers
Hospice of the Western Reserve is seeking volunteers to assist in private residences, nursing homes, assisted living communities, our three Hospice House locations, and hospital settings.
Opportunities to serve are diverse: Visit patients and families to provide companionship, socialization and comfort; help with legacy work, transportation, light housework and meal preparation; run errands; make phone calls; help with clerical work; attend health fairs; and make presentations. Volunteers with specialized professional qualifications and training are also needed: attorneys, licensed hairdressers, massotherapists, pet therapy dogs and their handlers.
The next series of volunteer classes will be Aug. 22, 24, 29 and 31, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Hospice of the Western Reserve, 4670 Richmond Road in Warrensville Heights. Nonclinical volunteers attend only the first four hours on Aug. 22, while most other volunteers attend all classes.

Princess Tea Party coming July 15
The Irish American Club — East Side will be hosting a Princess Tea Party presented by Northeast Ohio Cosplay on July 15.
Doors open at 2:30 p.m. with the event beginning at 3.
Advance tickets only and they cost $15, though children ages 2 and under get in free.
The event includes a live interactive show, tea, coffee, water, juice, tea sandwich, scone and cupcake. There will also be a meet and greet with the princesses and princes.

Geauga Parks taking hunting applications
Adult and youth applications to participate in Geauga Park District’s 2017-18 controlled hunting program for whitetailed deer are now being accepted through July 31.
Forms are available online at http://bit.ly/gpdhunting, or for pickup at The West Woods Nature Center, Big Creek Park’s Meyer Center and Great Lakes Outdoor Supply in Middlefield.
All lottery winners will be notified and required to complete qualifications before the hunt.
Controlled hunting has been used since the 2006-07 season to maintain healthy, balanced populations of plants and animals on Park District properties, according to a news release.
